There's been an ongoing debate on the quality of steel in spanish, chilean, and pretty much ever SR mauser ever built online for decades. they are not the same rifle as their M98 large ring big brothers). fits the same after market stock as the spanish mauser (understand these are SMALL RING MAUSERs. the only real difference in the two rifles as I understand it is they changed the bolt face. This rifle is an antique so no FFL is required…unless you live in California.The 1985 chilean is a modified 1893 "spanish" mauser. This Mauser is worth adding to your collection. The Chilean crest on this receiver is crisp & deep and the Chilean crest on the stock is intact. This one looks great and has deep markings that include matching numbers on the receiver, stock, bottom metal, bolt handle, and cleaning rod. Model 1895’s made by Loewe are antiques those made by DWM may not be antiques as many were made by DWM after 1898. Our Assessment: This Chilean Model 1895 Mauser was made in Germany as a contract rifle for Chile before Loewe and Company formed Deutsche Waffen-Und Munitionsfabriken (DWM). As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards. Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition as an antique. Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its finish.The metal shows light scrapes, a few small scratches, and a few areas of light oxidation. There is fouling and intermittent light erosion in the grooves near the muzzle.

The stock rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition as an antique.īore Condition: The lands are bright, the grooves are semi bright, and the rifling is deep. The LOP measures 13 ¼ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. A few of the marks have damaged the surface wood. The wood shows scrapes & scratches and compression marks. The buttplate and stock hardware show scrapes & oxidation. Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece hardwood stock has a straight grip, nosecap with bayonet lug, hole for the included cleaning rod, barrel band, 2 sling loops, and a metal buttplate. When flipped up it becomes a sight ladder that uses a separate sliding “V” notched blade. Sights / Optics: The front sight is an inverted “V” post set atop a small base. The top right edge of the stock, at the receiver, and the left side of the stock, below the receiver, are each marked with a “star”. The bottom of the grip and butt are marked with small stamps. The left side of the buttstock is marked with an “1895” dated Chilean crest.

Most of the metal parts are marked with small Chilean proofs (“crossed hammers”, “X in a circle”, etc.).

The bottom metal and bolt assembly (twice) are also marked with the last 2 digits of the serial number. The “1” on the cleaning rod has been double struck.
